Summer is over and the owls are well rested. To open the season the Sassen pool everything that happened between the Schuylkill and the Atlantic – rhymed, sung, or freely invented.
An evening for the Rhine valley, held in Pennsylvania. The Circle of Friends is invited, and anyone who cannot tell Riesling from Schuylkill water will learn tonight.
Online at eight: Susan Macdowell Eakins, painter of Philadelphia, long overshadowed by her husband and far too good for that. An evening about someone worth knowing.
First the Schlaraffiade, then the Ahalla ceremony: we remember the Sassen who rode ahead of us. Solemn, but not heavy – just as they would have wanted it.
